I'm a proud Central New York native, and I earned my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. Throughout the course of my training I developed a love of couples counseling and have attended several seminars and trainings on the subject including level 1 & 2 Gottman Method trainings.
I work within a Narrative perspective, which means, I allow you to tell me your story. Through the course of treatment you're encouraged to take control and to write your future, and even rewrite how you view pieces of your past. When you come to my office I stress that you are the expert in the room. This can often evoke some startled looks, as most people come to me thinking I'm an expert; and while I've gone to school and received extensive training, what we're talking about in the room is your life. And who is a bigger expert on that than you? I don't believe I know what's best for someone over his or her own intuitions, convictions, and needs. I consider myself profoundly lucky to be allowed to walk with so many people on their journey. However, I never try to decide where I think they need to go. I ask questions, and show over-looked insights that help you pick your own path, and then I support that decision. |
